Today I had an opportunity to talk to Julian, the Director of Design and Development for Cocoon Innovations. Last week I posted about their unusual and fashionable laptop bags, and in the end I think I was left with more questions than answers.

What were they made of? What the heck was the Grid system they were talking about? What would they cost? Would they look good in person? Would I really want to carry one?

Read on for the answers and lots of pictures…

What are they made of? Julian told me that these cases and laptop bags will be available in leather, fabric, and / or sustainable leather, depending upon the model.

What the heck is this Grid system they’re talking about? This was one of the coolest and most innovative things I have ever seen in any laptop bag or accessory case. Strips of elastic are interwoven to create places where your devices can be placed – without worrying about whether or not they will fit in a particular pocket.

What will they cost? The smaller accessory cases will start at about $20, and the most elaborate leather laptop cases will cost approximately $250. I saw one of their more expensive bags in person; to say that I was impressed would be putting it mildly.

Did they look good in person? Umm…yeah! The bag that most intrigued me before was the one I would have totally sneaked out with, if Polly and Julian hadn’t been looking. I mean, look how well Tam fits inside. My MacBook Air would look lovely in there, as well.

Would I really want to carry one? You bet! And since they will be available in Spring 2009, I don’t have long to wait. :-D

The lovely Amisha, from Notebooks.com, also spent some time with Cocoon. You can read her impressions and watch video on the bags, here.
