The OtterBox Impact series is a thin skin designed to protect your smartphone without adding the bulk of their Defender series cases. The skin covers the sides and back completely while leaving the front open for use of the keypad and trackball as well as soft keys.
I’m a huge fan of cases that provide functionality over pretty looks. And that’s where I’d classify OtterBox. Their cases have always been legend for the amount of protection that they offer against drops and abuse.
In recognition of users who may not need the bulk or added protection of their Defender line, the company created the Impact Series. The same sturdy design as their other cases minus the bulk and front screen covers.
I’ve previously tried cases that cover my keyboard in a thin film, and unless I’m working regularly in a wet or dirty environment, I greatly prefer the design layout of the Impact which has no key or screen cover to impede my use.

Protection on this case does extend to the top and side keys. In my use the buttons remained easy to press and the case provided ample protection without making it harder to use keys.

The back of the case has a cut out that exposes the camera so that there’s no need to remove the BlackBerry Bold from the case to take photos or video.

The OtterBox Impact for BlackBerry Bold is affordable ($19.95) and provides the most protection without becoming overly cumbersome. This skin is going to be most attractive for those who do not wear a holster since with the skin you will not be able to slide the device into or out of the standard BlackBerry holster and at this time OtterBox doesn’t offer a companion holster.

What I Liked:
Great protection
Easy to put BlackBerry into the skin/case
Provides excellent grip
What Could Be Improved:
Needs a companion holster
Can’t use drop in charger with case/skin
