Despite all of the myriad limitations that Apple has imposed on the device (crippled Bluetooth?, no background processes?, no cut-and-paste?) I continue to love my iPhone. Every device has its trade-offs and I can deal with the ones that come with the iPhone.

There is one that could have been a dealbreaker for me… Battery Life.

While I may not be the typical iPhone user (whatever “typical” means) I find myself having to charge it at least once a day if not more. Yes, I use it that much. Fortunately there are a host of external battery options now available for both generations of the device. The newest might also be the most interesting.

PhoneSuit.com has just announced  their new Mili Power Pack. While, on first glance, it appears similar to other products that wrap around the device, it offers some significant differences that make it stand out. For example –21

The same battery can be used with both generations of the iPhone.

It’s stylish and comes in six different high-gloss colors

It more than doubles the runtime of the device

It includes a USB out port which makes it possible to not only charge the iPhone but the USB accessories such as a Bluetooth headset, as well. And, the iPhone can be cabled to, and synced with, iTunes even while in the power pack thanks to the USB port.

LED indicator lights make it simple to know how much charge is currently available.

It has “smart charging” that allows it to prioritize power consumption. For example — if the battery and phone are connected to a  power source the charges taken from there rather than the battery. And no matter what the situation, the iPhone’s internal battery is the last to be used.

In all, the Mili Power Pack  looks to be an excellent option for those of us who need the extra juice. For more information or to order one for an MSRP of $79.99  you can visit the PhoneSuit website here.

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. +Dan Cohen

    Thanks for this!

I’ve got the Incase Power Slider but never liked that it only comes in black since I’m rocking the white iPhone.

I’ve gone ahead and ordered the white version of this.

This one doesn’t seem to offer the same amount of protection as the Incase version but it looks slicker.

Not sure about all the color choices though. Since the colored portion is only in the inside it seems like a waste to me.
