Intel Releases Moblin V2 Core Alpha

Posted on 31 January 2009 by

Intel has released the next alpha of their Moblin Linux distribution.  Now, on the face, the UI is currently XFCE, but they are developing a new UI that will not be based on XFCE.  The biggest thing in this release is a VERY fast boot time.  I booted the live CD in VirtualBox and it was up so fast I barely had time to blink.  If this is a sample of what is to come, I really like this distro!

I tried booting it on my Eee PC 702 and it will not boot.  I think this may be because they are targeting the Atom and graphics chipsets that work with it.  The 702 is a Celeron M which is probably why it’s not working.

Windows 7 will have some great competition in the Netbook category.

This distro is horrible. I tried it out last night via Live-CD on my Eee PC 900HA. Can barely find any of the hardware. Wireless didn't work…
I realize this is an alpha release but, really… don't waste your time.

CrunchEee is better and way more stable. Finds all the hardware no problem. Plus it looks cooler.
