PDAir T-Mobile G1 Case Reviews

Posted on 18 January 2009

PDAir sent me a couple of cases to try for on the T-Mobile G1.  The first one is by far, my most favorite case I’ve yet tried with my G1.  The leather flip case I received from PDAir even smells great; maybe not Vaja great, but it doesn’t come with a Vaja price tag, either! 2009 Toyota Highlander Hybrid

Posted on 17 January 2009

I never really took notice of the benchmark status of Highlander until recent new model introduction events held by competitor automakers. More and more I heard the name “Highlander” included in their marketing and technical presentations when reciting segment target data.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

iPod Nano 4G case roundup

Posted on 17 January 2009

After you’ve purchased your iPod Nano 4G the next thing on the list is accessorize. To protect the beautiful outside finish you need to search for a case that is easy to get on, allows easy access to all the buttons and most importantly looks good. The folks at Testfreaks rounded up nine inexpensive cases and give their impressions as well as lots of pictures of each case. I can’t say one looks much different than another – and I’m still in love with my Otterbox Impact, but have a look. TestFreaks Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Boxwave T-Mobile G1 Case Review Roundup

Posted on 17 January 2009

Boxwave sent me three cases for me to try with my T-Mobile G1. First up is the Boxwave Armor Case.  I was sent the black version, which is made of anodized aluminum and has a protective Plexiglas window over the screen.  There are openings for all functions of the phone, allowing you to use the phone while it’s in the case; this makes it convenient when making or taking calls. iPod Power Pro – sync cable, car charge, home charge – $7.99 shipped

Posted on 17 January 2009

If you’ve ever stopped into the Apple store thinking you’ll just “pick up” a charger cable for your iPod then you know these things don’t come cheap. Apple gets $29 for a USB power adapter, $19 for a sync cable, $19 for a car adapter. By my math that’s over $100. Did I mention math wasn’t my strongest suit in school? Now granted this deal here is only good for certain iPod models (mostly the old school first generations – such as original iPhone, original Touch, original few Nano’s). For $7.99 shipped you’ll get a sync cable, car charger, home charger and the satisfaction that you’re not being ripped off paying more… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Sansa e260 – 4GB MP3 and Video – $29.99 shipped

Posted on 17 January 2009

This deal is too cool to pass up – especially if your kids have been bugging you for one of those iPod players that I’ve heard are popular (but too expensive for little ones). Sure, Woot! sells these Sansa players about every other week – and this model is a refurb. But just think about what you are getting. It’s 4GB (expandable by 2GB if you add a MicroSD memory card) MP3 and AVI player. That means both movies and music. The battery is replaceable and the reviews on Amazon (over 700) are an average of 4 our of 5. This is one deal per day so you need to order today (January 17, 2009)….or wait until Woot! offers another… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

The Coast Guard and National Transportation Safety Board released video footage of the U.S. Airways flight 1549 as it conducted an emergency landing into the Hudson River Jan. 15, 2009. This video was captured on a camera operated by the Coast Guard that monitors the active waterways around the New York City area. Watch the video at the 2:03 mark and you’ll see the initial splash. Shortly thereafter the camera zooms in and you can see people exiting the plane. Thankfully nobody was injured in this plane crash. YouTube via The Inquisitr Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Circuit City Calls it Quits

Posted on 16 January 2009

While the sale details aren’t all clear yet, MSNBC has posted that Circuit City is indeed liquidating and going out of business.  Is this a sign of things to come for the brick and mortar stores? I fondly remember the first time I went into Circuit City many years ago, how it was awash in electronic gadgets.  While they weren’t always the cheapest, they did have decent prices in competition with most local stores.  I’ll miss you Circuit City, even if no one else will. Now…what do you want to get at the sale?… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I Want Sandy Back

Posted on 16 January 2009

And so it goes. When the market first crashed and it became even clearer how bad the economic climate had become,  in a behind the scenes team email, Judie prophetically remarked that she wondered how long it would be before the shakeout among newish technology offerings began. The answer is… not long at all.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

If you believe “one day only” sales — are truly only for one day – then you might want to pay close attention to a sale that the folks at Peek have going on today. For only $299 you get the Peek device – PLUS – a lifetime subscription to their wireless email service that delivers both email and sms text messaging to their pseudo-BlackBerry devices. Kogan Agora Delayed

Posted on 16 January 2009

The Kogan Agora, a QWERTY thumboard device running Android, has been delayed due to future compability issues, and a date has yet to be set on when the device will be available for sale. Just days out from release, the Agora looked to be a good way to get into Android without contracts/locks, and with impressive pricing it was good value too. From the press release: Melbourne, AUSTRALIA, 16th January 2009 – Kogan Technologies’ Agora phone will be delayed indefinitely due to potential future interoperability issues. Kogan Technologies founder Ruslan Kogan said the phone will undergo a significant redesign in order to ensure its compatibility with all future Android applications. “The Agora reached a very late stage of development, manufacturing had commenced and we were within days of shipping the product to customers. But it now seems certain the current Agora specifications will limit its compatibility or interoperability in the near future,” Ruslan Kogan said. Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Pink Floyd Dark Side of The Moon – $5 (mp3)

Posted on 15 January 2009

Excluding compilation albums, Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon is the third best selling album of all time (Thriller by Michael Jackson is #1 and AC/DC Back in Black is #2). It held the number one spot in the USA for only one week – but spent a total of 741 consecutive weeks (over 14 years) on Billboard’s list of the top 200 best selling albums, longer than any other album in the history of music-kind. It’s owned by an estimated one in every fourteen people under the age of fifty. If you’re not one of those who own a copy – or you’d like a full DRM free version of the album – here’s your chance. Amazon has the… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Molly Wood Moving on from Buzz Out Loud

Posted on 15 January 2009

I use my iPod/iPod Touch to listen to pocasts, mostly. I’ve got some music on them, but its mostly just podcasts. Its one of the ways I stay connected to the technology industry. One of my favorite podcasts is C|Net’s Buzz Out Loud. They’ve got one of the best formula’s and crew out there, and honestly…it just works. I recently heard that Molly Wood, one of the show’s three co-hosts, will be moving on to other C|Net related duties.  Says Molly in her post to the BOL Lounge, It seems like everybody already knows this, but I felt like I owed this community a longer explanation of what’s happening with Buzz Out Loud. The official “news” is that I am moving from a daily host of BOL Continue reading on Gear Diary …
