Lonely? Wish there were a plastic doll that would talk nicely to you from desk while tethered via 4 foot USB cable? I don’t either but this may be perfect for the super geeky or super lonely. Select from either “lovely” or “cheeky” messages. The former sends you constant reinforcement during the day, while the later is decidedly NSFW (not safe for work) and guaranteed to be a little saucier. If you’re dating a gadget guy or girl, getting them a gift for a special occasion such as Valentines Day, which ack! – is just around the corner (!!), can be a bit of a challenge.

That’s why I thought the newly designable Flip Minos were such a great idea. You can get them in either the HD version with 4GB ($229), or the slim version with 2GB ($179), and the best part is that there is no extra cost to use the Valentines Day related designs in Flip’s online gallery or to upload your own images and create something truly special. You can even buy a gift certificate if your creative juices have completely dried.

Valentines Day designs will be available soon at Cafe Press, and there are lots of styles to choose from.

White Castle Valentines Day reservation hotlines open now

Still stumped about where to take your valentine this year? You do remember that Valentines Day is February 14, right? White Castle is a regional hamburger restaurant well known for their mini burgers. They have a promotion each year on special occasions where they accept phone reservations for preferred seating (aka plastic tablecloth). Last year they took photos (viewable online) of happy couples dining on the special day (bring your own camera this year because the site say’s they’re no longer snapping pictures). Click here to see pictures from prior year.

Nothing say’s Fanboy like Nintendo Game Boy Advance cuff links

Just in time for Valentines Day gift giving are these black Game Boy Advance Cufflinks. These limited edition cufflinks feature a removable cartridge that is a replica of the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. Shipped in a corrugated gift pack (aka box) for only $36. Sure to make your significant other the talk of the next family gathering.

Valentine toilet paper shows your love – “top to bottom”

Does your significant other plead with your for “practical gifts”? It won’t get much more practical than this for Valentines Day. Is there a more intimate gift than a roll of toilet paper printed with “I Love You From Top To Bottom?”. Gosh, I’m tearing up just typing that. If you prefer, the site also sells “His and Hers” toilet paper that rips down the middle or if you’re thinking of plopping the question how about “Will You Marry Me” toilet paper. Beware the rolls are a bit pricy at $14.95 plus shipping – but at least they’ll know how much they mean to you!

And finally, the ultimate…

I started Gear Diary on September 30, 2006, and my goal was that this not be an easily labeled site. We all have gear that we use daily – some of it electronic and some of it organic. I think it is fascinating to explore the equipment that makes our lives easier, more entertaining, more productive, and more manageable. My hope is that Gear Diary visitors will find this site to be a comfortable and friendly place to discuss interesting topics – and not only those that are tech related, as well as a location to discover various types of gear – whatever that term may end up implying – that they never knew existed. My specialty is in-depth reviews written in a layman’s terms, because everyone can understand technology, sometimes it just takes a little translating. +Judie Stanford
