For example, notifications are a royal pain, especially when they interrupt you. My WM phone does that to me all the time and it's very annoying! On the Palm Pre, notifications will sit at the very bottom of the screen and will never grab focus. You can keep on doing what you're doing until you're ready to deal with the notification.
Also many people, and especially me, want to be able to deal with contacts from work, my personal email, Facebook, instant messaging, in one place. The Pre will let me do that.
As impressed as I am with the Pre, I remain a Windows Mobile guy, having used it from the beginning (an HP Jornada 320 running Windows CE). I hope that in Windows Mobile 7, Microsoft stops to re-think some things from the ground up, addressing the issues that many of us face daily with our phones.
In the meantime WM 6.5 is a welcome update, but is really just a band-aid.

(continuation)

For example, notifications are a royal pain, especially when they interrupt you. I would have hoped for, at the very least, updates to Outlook Mobile and the Media Player.
I look at the new WebOS from Palm as a good example of what can be done when some basic needs are addressed. It is obvious that Palm took a look at several pain points of mobile phones and did what they could to fix them.

I agree that it is a step forward, but it is still mostly addressing top-level UI needs and not the deeper fundamental changes that are really needed. I do like the new Today, even though it's not as sleek as TouchFlo 3D and if the new Lock works as it supposed to (locking the device when you power of) this alone would be for me the reason to upgrade from WM 6.1 (I just hate the fact that phone is not automatically locked when in your pocket, and the third party lockers don't work as they should).
As for the rest - well I do have (probably an alpha) version of MobileIE6 on my Advantage and the experience is very desktop like, it looks like desktop but it also renders most of the pages like desktop (although very slowly). The look I don't like and the rendering is fine, so if Microsoft updated the UI for the production version and if the improved on speed and zooming this is going to be a very good browser - another good reason to upgrade.

From the pictures it looks like 6.5 is a step in the right direction, although a smal step.<br
