For only $5.29 DealExtreme offers this two pack of Green LED lit fingerlamps. Slip them on and magically light up the night with your fingertips. Could be a work related deductible expense for those of you working the night shift at toll booths (Consult your tax adviser). The lights automatically turn on when you insert your finger – and turn off when removed. For extra fun (because your kids may not know who ET is) – rent the movie on DVD. When it’s over take your hand out of your pocket and with a somber face tell them “See Dad/Mom is related to E.T.” Be prepared to have the kids never want to sleep in their own bed ever again… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

This giveaway is now closed; the winners are Michelle, Alexander Horvath, and Rodney. Thank you for entering, and be sure to keep an eye out for future Gear Diary giveaways! It’s been almost a year since Gear Diary suffered our atomic server crash, when roughly nine months of data was vaporized, and I got a harsh lesson on what happens when you grow complacent about compulsively keeping your data backed up. This giveaway could not possibly be more timely… So here is the deal: How would you like to be one of six lucky people to win a 320GB Seagate FreeAgent Go USB hard drive? Winners will even have their choice of color. We’re giving away three drives here on Gear Diary, and you get another three chances to win over at The Gadgeteer! Julie really liked the Mac version of the FreeAgent Go that she reviewed in December; she said it was virtually silent, and she liked the spray of LEDs along the bottom edge. If you win, you’ll be able to carry your files with you in style!… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Google today updated their mobile and desktop Maps product to add a new feature called Google Latitude. With the new option you can see your friends’ locations and status messages on a map or in a list (hopefully a full integration to Twitter/Facebook is in the works). You’ll also be able to communicate with friends via text messages, IM or phone. Naturally you can control where your location (you do not need to specify it exactly) and exactly who gets to see it. The mobile service is available for Android, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile 5.0+, Symbian S60. iPhone and Touch support is listed as coming soon.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

The latest 1.20 release of Slacker for BlackBerry is available for free download. This version adds better support for the BlackBerry Storm and fixes some reported issues with songs skipping the last 10 seconds. The BlackBerry version of Slacker is unique because you can save (cache) songs from any of the stations that are playing (sadly this requires you to tether via USB cable). Why is this any better than similar offerings from Pandora? Simple – more clients (BlackBerry, G1 & G2 music players), offline caching, more tailoring of channels. Slacker via BlackBerry Cool Continue reading on Gear Diary …

February 12th will mark what would have been Charles Darwin‘s 200th birthday had he found the fountain of youth. In celebration of the evolutionary biologist’s special day, several forward-thinking companies are offering Darwin themed goods, or they are throwing birthday bashes that look like a ton of fun. So far, I have found the following…… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I’m not sure if the problem of kidlets waking up too early is so much of a “not sure if it is morning yet” issue, or more of a “it’s still a little dark, I just woke up, and I needed to be reassured that you love me” thing, but nevertheless I am intrigued by the idea of a night light that lets kids know when it is still sleepy-time versus time to get up. The objective of the “Good Nite Lite” is to educate children to stay in bed until it is morning. Children between the ages of 3 and 5 years of age are just starting to grasp the concept of day and night and how it relates to regularly scheduled rest. The Good Nite Lite can assist children with better differentiating the concept of nighttime and daytime and reinforce the benefits of appropriate sleep patterns. The Good Nite Lite device itself is an innovative combination of a traditional night light and a built in timer that changes the visual display characteristics to reinforce a regular sleep pattern. Whether it works as planned, or whether it’s just the world’s cutest night light remains to be seen, but I [...]

Do you have a BlackBerry 9000 (aka BlackBerry Bold)? Do you have a second battery that you need to keep fully charged as a spare? Here’s an affordable ($22.99) desktop cradle that allows you to: 1. Synchronize 2. Charge the primary battery (NOTE: Yes this uses the “pigtail” instead of built in charge contacts and it does so because the OEM drop in charger does not allow sync – see #1 above) 3. Charge a spare battery This 2-in-1 sync and charging cradle will save you some cash over the OEM version that is priced at around $80. Kit includes the USB cradle with spot for simultaneous charging of a spare battery (not included) as well as an A/C USB Power… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I am a big fan of RPG type games. I am also a big fan of Arvale (and Arvale II) on the Windows Mobile platform which, despite a few small flaws, is a really enjoyable game with lots of depth and an interesting storyline. I stumbled across it a few weeks back, now availalable for the iPhone. Since I remember it being a heavy-duty stylus-dependent game, I was curious how it would port to the iPhone. So I purchased it and have been checking it out. So how did it do? Read on and find out.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
