MyPhone from Microsoft is now live (for some) – syncs info between phone and the web

Posted on 17 February 2009

It looks like the Microsoft MyPhone service is slowly starting to open the gates and allow for more users to enroll in their beta. Phil Nickinson over at WMExperts was able to get in and sync up his 499 text messages. Unfortunately I still get the “please take a number….don’t call us we’ll call you” when I try to access the site. You may however want to try from your area of the world and see if you have better luck getting in. MyPhone is Microsoft’s way of storing all your Windows Mobile phone data to a protected site. This means pictures, text messages, contacts, tasks, videos, documents – etc. Of course there are other services like Dashwire that do… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Dataviz’s Documents to Go for iPhone demoed

Posted on 17 February 2009

DataViz is demonstrating their Documents To Go software for iPhone this week at Mobile World Congress. Their popular handheld applications include Word, Excel, Powerpoint and PDF document editors/viewers. At least one screen shot has a copy and paste icon so perhaps this version will have some tricks up it’s sleeve when the final version is released whenever DataViz is damn good and ready. Word is that a version for Android is in the not too distant future as well. Until then you can sign up to be notified of the release of Dataviz for iPhone here. Macitynet.it has more screen shots via Macnn Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Neuros Link: Netflix Bounty Claimed!

Posted on 16 February 2009

Neuros has long offered bounties on different development projects that enhance their products; one I have been semi excited for is Netflix Streaming.  Well, sundevil98 has managed to get it working on the Link according to Joe.  He did it by installing Mediamall’s Playon software on top of XBMC.  The next version of the software on the Link should have XBMC built into it.  Eventually, Neuros will have a native client on the Link, but for now, this will allow you to stream movies from Netflix! MOTO Development Group Demonstrates Android on E-Ink Display

Posted on 16 February 2009

This press release came down on Friday, but I wanted some time to digest the lengthy press release because there’s more than just Android on a E-Ink display in this release. First, the headline is that MOTO Development Group has the first example of Android running on a E-Ink display. http://www.vimeo.com/3162590 E-Ink displays are like the displays that run the Amazon Kindle.  They are low power, black and white screens for the moment.  Imagine having a color version of this with a touchscreen layer on top.  You could probably gain some battery life with these screens or at the very least have a Android powered eReader. Also in the press release is this little tasty tidbit: MOTO labs is working Continue reading on Gear Diary …

iTunes goes DRM Free

Posted on 16 February 2009

This isn’t new news to anyone, but its significant in that most everyone will be able to get DRM free music out of iTunes.  Ever since the dawn of iTunes, music has been tied to your Apple ID, and not playable on anything other than an authorized computer and a connected iPod (be it a Shuffle, Nano, iPod, Touch, iPhone, etc.)  … Continue reading on Gear Diary …

One last new Nokia to tempt you this afternoon, and then we are done. Say hello to the 6710 Navigator, a little powerhouse designed with getting you there safely in mind. The Quad Band 6710 features a screen which has been “optimised for outdoor use”, a “2 GB MicroSD card (with pre-loaded mega region maps)”, “support for synchronisation of Nokia Maps 3.0 [included] with Maps on Ovi”, and yep – the Carl Zeiss 5MP camera optics that I have come to love. MWC09: Nokia E55

Posted on 16 February 2009

If sliding keyboard isn’t your thing, then Nokia’s new E55 might be just the ticket. A compact QWERTY keyboard graces the front of this new “monoblock”; isn’t that what we used to call a candy bar form factor? In any case, the new design looks sweet, and the Quad Band GSM should make everyone happy. Continue reading on Gear Diary …

MWC09: Nokia E75

Posted on 16 February 2009

Holy cow! It appears that the E71 has snuck off and had a love child with a Windows Mobile phone! Okay, maybe not, but tell me if that’s not what Nokia‘s new Quad-Band E75 kind of looks like… I’m not sure how well it will go over with people who like having their QWERTY keyboard on the front of their device, but for people who like a compact form factor which hides all kinds of functionality, this may just do the trick.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

How About a 10MP Pentax Optio for $89.99?

Posted on 16 February 2009

Yep, you read that right. What a great price on a digital camera; even if it’s not the best quality, for that price you could give one to a kid sister, keep it as a glovebox camera, use it as your beach camera beater…you get the idea. If you are undecided, then check the camera’s features…… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Shuh. Finally! Palm has finally sunsetted its much outdated and overly much long in the tooth PalmOS in favor of the Pre’s new WebOS.  Now, all it has to do is convince over 30,000 PalmOS developers (who have created over 100,000 PalmOS apps) to embrace the new mobile operating system and develop (or port) their applications for/to it.
