Several users are reporting that the latest (unreleased but available to developers) version of iPhone OS 3.0 supports the newly released Skype and allows for use of voice calling over 3G. Currently the Skype application in the App Store limits those using iPhone OS 2.x from voice communication over anything except Wi-Fi. There’s no telling if this “feature” will remain once the official version of iPhone 3.0 rolls out this summer. It seems unlikely the carriers will allow any VOIP (voice over IP) application however the writing seems clear that someday soon affordable unlimited voice calling will be the norm with cell phones.

Pardon my cluelessness – does anyone know if it is possible with external hardware to get a 1st gen iPod Touch to support a microphone?
