Fellow WM enthusiast, Mike Temporale posted a cool review of the BlueAnt Z9i Bluetooth Headset over at MobileJaw. Says Brother Temporale in his awesome review: The headset itself is small with a couple volume buttons on the top side and one big “ant” button on the back. Below the ant button and before the ear piece, you’ll find a small proprietary port for charging. The port almost looks like miniUSB, but sadly, it’s not. The buttons on the top are used for volume and the ant button is the main function button. The hoop is allowed to freely swing and rotate making it really easy to put on. The Jawbone, my previous headset, was always a pain to get on your ear. I have broken the hoop Continue reading on Gear Diary …

For those interested, there’s a decent review of Pocket Informant for the iPhone at JustAnotheriPhoneBlog. The review is pretty thorough and in depth with a lot of screen shots and insight into the application. If you’re interested, you should take a look. Right off the bat here I should let you know that I have not been using Pocket Informant (PI) for iPhone for anywhere near as long as I usually have when reviewing an iPhone app. It only launched in the App Store yesterday! But … I have spent a large amount of time using it already and trying out nearly all its main features, and I know a lot of you are very interested in PI on the iPhone, so I admit I have hurried Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Apparently Apple’s educational web site (or a cool looking facsimile) has leaked word of a possible 17″ iMac starting at the price point of $899. No word on any specifications or when this may be expected (assuming it is all legit). Gizmodo via Setteb.it and Apple Lounge Continue reading on Gear Diary …

My entire philosophy when it comes to computers pretty much revolves around a single incident which occurred when I was in ninth grade. We were studying Romeo and Juliet in English class, my first exposure to Shakespeare. At the beginning of the unit, we were given a worksheet with dozens of short essay questions. The idea was, as we read the play, we completed the essays relating to the portion we studied in class. Being the diligent student that I was back then, I worked on that worksheet every day, sitting in the basement tapping away with Bank Street Writer on my Apple II+. Finally, it was the last weekend before the worksheet was due to be completed. I have to admit that I was pretty proud of my work…until the incident occurred. To this day, I am really not exactly sure what happened. I seem to remember smoke and flames shooting out from the computer screen. But that was probably my imagination. Like I said, I really have no idea what happened. All I know is that when I sat down at the computer, inserted my 5 1/4 inch floppy disk, started up and…le’s just say nothing happened. The [...]

The new Pantech Matrix Pro is a chunky and solidly built little smartphone, offered exclusively by AT&T. Measuring 4.17″ tall x 2.0″ wide x 0.85″ thick and weighing 5.34 ounces, it might be easy to dismiss this little beast as too thick and too heavy. But just like a story with a surprise twist at the end, there is more to this quad-band Windows Mobile Standard 6.1 device than first assumed.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

It’s a big FAIL that Dell didn’t get this email to me until now, especially considering that the sale is over today, but at least there is still time to act. Dell is offering their Vostro 1510 laptop for $499 and Vostro 220s desktop system (with 17″ flat panel monitor) for $389, which virtually eliminates any excuse to put buying a new system off…the specs look pretty good, too! See these and other Dell Deals here.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Some people love Christmas. Other’s Thanksgiving. My Stepfather? He loves the Equinox – which in case you didn’t know happens today March 20 at 7:44 am EST (11:44 GMT). An equinox occurs twice per year when the tilt of the Earth’s axis is inclined neither away from nor towards the Sun. This results in a few things. First, the length of night and day is approximately equal. Secondly, and more importantly to my stepfather – this is the day that eggs are supposed to easily be stood on their ends. I’m still warming my two eggs (and they’re not standing) – however we have to wait until the magical 7:44 am EST to draw any final conclusions. How about you? Are your eggs standing? Equinox Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I’ve yet to see anyone write about the price drop on the new T-Mobile Cameo wireless picture frame. This whole concept is pretty neat. Digital picture frames of course have been around for quite some time. What T-Mobile did is embed a cellular modem into their frame so that you won’t have to mess with connecting to Wi-Fi. The frame has its own address so you can send pictures from cellular phones. This sounds like a great gift for grandparents and far away family members. Early reviews were lukewarm on the picture quality and cost ($10/mo for service). Now I’ve spotted that T-Mobile stores are selling these for $39 and only $1.99 per month service. There’s no contract and no activation… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

If your phone takes a swim and your on a GSM carrier (T-Mobile, AT&T for example in the USA) you usually have to replace a broken phone with an insurance claim from . If you don’t have the cell phone insurance (which is usually $4 to $6/mo) then you’re only choice has been to buy a replacement at the over priced rate, purchase from a limited selection of basic (aka ugly) prepaid phones (replacing the prepaid sim with yours works so long as it’s the same carrier’s phone) or shopping for a fully unlocked phone that could be used on any GSM compatible plan. Here’s a solution to the last option – a fully unlocked phone. This Nokia 6133 is quad band -… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

One impact of Apple’s announcement of version 3.0 of the iPhone OS on the 17th was that it keeps the device from becoming obsolete. Based upon the announcement it’s clear that every new functionality in version 3.0 will work with the iPhone 3G, and the majority of the new functionality will even work with the original iPhone. That’s pretty amazing considering how quickly technology moves and the fact that, in a consumer electronics world, an almost 2 year old device is rapidly moving into the territory of being “an antique”. On the other hand, however, there is a device on the market from Apple that will, I suspect, be obsolete quite quickly and, like the “fat” iPod Nano, will be a one generation device at best. I’m talking about the new iPod Shuffle. … Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I have to agree with a comment Rocco Augusto made on Facebook the other day – March is definitely the coolest month ever – and we are only a little bit past halfway through it! Not only does March give us Poundcake Day on the 4th, Daylight Savings Time kicks in again (this year on the 8th), we get Pi day on the 14th, we can celebrate the discovery of Uranus on the 13th, beware the Ides of March on the 15th, drink green beer on St. Patrick’s Day (17th), and celebrate the first walk in space on the 18th, We’ve also watched some some famous birthdays of note pass by this month: Dr Seuss’ on the 2nd, Michelangelo’s on the 6th, Barbie’s on the 9th… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
