Evernote- Better Than Ever With New Web-Clippers

I live by Evernote these days and it has become my central place for text, images and more.

In fact, I use not one but three different accounts. My personal account has over 2500 notes and is constantly growing. We are using it at work to better coordinate all our efforts and my administrative assistant, who has been luke-warm to most of my tech-shifts, told me the other day that she loves using. And we’ve even started using it here on Gear Diary since the team is spread all over.

Evernote is a great way to keep everything in one place and the more one uses it the more useful it becomes.

Among the features that make Evernote standout are

- The fact that each note is scanned and is thereby fully searchable.  (This is issue for people uber-concerned about security but for me it is just fine.)

-The fact that it is available cross-platform with versions for Mac, Windows, Windows Mobile, iPhone and Blackberry as well as a universal web-based version

-The fact that they offer a very usable free, add-supported account with 40MB of storage per month and a premium account that offers a huge 500MG of new uploaded data per month with no ads and priority recognition image.

-I can have my Eye-Fi card automatically upload new images to my Evernote account.

A recent update to Evernote added/updated two features that are just killer and make Evernote more useful than ever- A New WebClipper and a New Firefox add-on for Mac!

I wasn’t all that excited about the new add-ons until I actually used them. Once I did I was totally sold!

FireFox Add-On-

The new add-on makes grabbing webpages on the go a one click process.

Once you use the clipper the first time it remembers your preferences. From there, with the single click of a mouse it captures the entire webpage rather than just the portion that is currently visible. In addition, unlike the screen clipper, the Firefox add-on pre-names the new note for you. This is key since the other clipper, combined with my laziness, has resulted in hundreds of unnamed notes.

Finally, this new add-on grabs the page with links in tact. This allows Evernote to actually become a replacement for bookmarking webpages. The result? I now have all the benefits of bookmarking a webpage with complete search capabilities AND the ability to access those pages on any device or from any computer.

New Evernote Web-Clipper

The new web-clipper is great too and makes jotting quick notes etc simple. Here’s a quick video-overview of the improvements.

As if I wasn’t already sold on Evernote, these new Add-Ons make Evernote more useful than ever. For more information check out the Evernote site HERE.

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. +Dan Cohen

I really love Evernote, too, Dan. I have two different accounts (work and personal) and I use the heck out of both. What a wonderful service! I will have to make sure I have updated all my webclippers so that I'm using the latest and greatest. :-)

webclipper is really a nice feature of evernote. however, i've encountered problems saving websites for the past few weeks. they don't get saved at all.

I spent a lot of time looking at time and billing systems. My needs are very simple. Ultimately I decided that because it was more important to have access everywhere – web, desktop – that I would just keep one big simple time sheet in Evernote – and it works beautifully.

I'm also increasingly using this as a CRM type system to track quotes (create a notebook called quotes 2009) – it's amazing how many uses the notebook has when you couple it with the great synchronization capabilities.

I really want to like and use Evernote, but every time I check things it's the same situation – Windows Mobile application just doesn't cut it, there is no notes editing, no two way syncing, nothing that would make it reasonably usable.
