I know that for many a subscription service is a great idea, but for myself and my family we actually do listen to stuff across years.

Personally I still listen to records I bought more than 35 years ago, as well as stuff from pretty much every time since. I think you make a very valid point in that pricing will always be some analytical review of what the market will bear.. The 'monopoly' of that thinking will eventually drive the music business into a new business model. When people speak of the demise of the iPod, is it a platform question or is it really a new delivery mechanism?

Does the consumer really need to 'own a license' to their music or do they just want to listen to it on a variety of different platforms and share what they like? And how often do we really listen to the music we 'own' After some period of time it just really takes space on our HDs but we wouldn't think of erasing it because we 'own the license'.. :-)

Just some thoughts on what customer needs are versus what they are contending with..

Very Comprehensive Michael!
