According to an article at Yahoo! Tech, Nintendo has reported that the European and US launches of the new DSi handheld gaming system have sold more than 300,000 units each, eclipsing the launch figures for the original Nintendo DS in 2004 and the 2006 launch of the DS Lite.

My personal experience was completely non-stressful: I had pre-ordered the system and just walked into my local GameStop and picked it up on Monday morning. I heard similar stories from friends who just went to Walmart on Sunday and bought them without waiting in any lines or finding stores out of stock. This mirrors my experience with the Sony PSP 2000 and 3000 systems, though I did stand in a small line for the original PSP launch. Perhaps because of the two-years of lines for the Nintendo Wii, I expected lines and general hysteria and thought the lack of those indicated a lukewarm response to the launch. These numbers clearly tell a different story – especially since the DSi only had one day to rack up those numbers.

I am spending loads of time playing with all of the cool new features of the DSi and you can look forward to a thorough review in the near future!
