I’ve been buzzing around the net in a drastic attempt to find something interesting to write about. With so many new people contributing on Gear Diary now-a-days (which is so TOTALLY awesome, I can’t see straight!!), the competition is going to heat up!  I can’t wait to see what awesome goodies the team can come up with!

Anywho, one of the bit things that I’ve been working on is Windows 7 on both my MSI Wind and on my new unibody MacBook (review in process).  I noticed on JCXP the other day that Windows 7, build 7105 had leaked out.  Rumors of the RC hitting the streets tomorrow, 10-Apr-09 are all over the place.  Many are speculating that this either IS the RC, or isn’t far from it.

Neowin reports that from an ‘exculsive source,’ they were able to pinpoint build 7100 as being the most viable build number to recieve the ‘RC’ status. Compiled on April 4th, Build 7105 bears the following build string: “6.1.7105.0.090404-1235_x86fre_client_en-us_Retail_Ultimate-GB1CULFRER_EN_DVD”

The following are reported to be visible changes in this new build:

win7

1. Improved networking support, the work in the local network
2. Added support for some previously incompatible programs
3. Extras in the LP (?) and small cosmetic interface improvements
4. Added support for new drivers for various devices
5. Extended support sensory displays
6. A small optimization and changes in the kernel

Other than what you see above, MS just seems to be sticking this baby with a fork and tying a bow around everything. They’re just about done.  I’ve shot in about 4 or so serious feedback issues (one involving Outlook 2007, and how it interacts with Exchange 2007 under Windows 7); but I have no idea if they’ve even looked at those reports, let alone acted upon them. I will know when I install the RC on both my Wind and my MacBook.

In the mean time, keep your ears on and look to Gear Diary for news of the RC release. I’ll be sure to post a link to the download as soon as I know its available.
