Microsoft is announcing plans for the next version of Office 2010. Expect to see widespread “preview” testing in the third quarter of 2009 with a final launch of the new Office in the first half of 2010.

The technology previews slated to start in late 2009 should include new versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote as well as browser based Office Web Apps that Microsoft has been working. While it remains to be seen exactly what functionality the browser based versions include – they are not expected to be equal in capabilities to their desktop counterparts. According to Microsoft we can expect the browser-based applications to run in browsers other than Internet Explorer – with support for Safari and Firefox planned.
