Doing that seems to make it less noisy.

@RosalieW2S one trick I have often used is to plug the adapter into a powered usb hub. Welcome!

Note: I have a Asus Eee PC 1000HE now and LOVE IT! 1024x600 is the perfect resolution for me with netbooks.

As for the blue products, I like the Icicle and once the kernel devs have the drivers sorted out, it should work well on Linux as well.

I may pick one of the competing units and see if it works better with Linux.

I believe the Mixer may be handling the conversion from mono to stereo for me which is why I record stereo. Plus the Behringer UCA-202 I use with my Mixer actually takes a stereo RCA input which means it's capable of stereo even if I don't use a mixer (ie I can hook up a CD player or tape deck and record it's output). Most pro mikes are going to be mono which is why you may see more than one mike used in a recording session. Now with my Mixer, I can make it SOUND like it's a stereo mike by tweaking the pan control but....argh...I am rambling again!

Once you go into the pro audio type stuff, things can get complicated! ;-)

Welcome to the site and I hope you stick it out!

Hi Jessica! I have really been wanting to pull the trigger on the Snowball. This seems like it would be a great product to use if you already have a great non-USB mic...too bad it doesn't record in stereo without a mixer!

I love the Blue products.
