You are correct that Google Maps uses Teleatlas as it's source, but G-Map is not built on Google Maps or Teleatlas. It loads its own map data.

You're not being pedantic at all. I suspect this is a glitch in the Navteq map data, rather than the application, but it was an odd thing. The routing information, however, was correct."

Not meaning to be pedantic, isnt the G-Map application for i-Phone built on Google Maps, making it Teleatlas data. Isnt that the mapping company that Tom Tom bought and is struggling to pay for?

Hi Christopher,

I noticed your comment:

“I saw a data glitch in the Detroit area where it kept indicating I was on I-75 when, in fact, I was on I-94. I have found that I get a wonderful signal outside, but in the car, with slightly tinted windows, the iPhone, like other mobile phones, has difficulty maintaining a signal lock. I can take other GPS units (stand alone and puck receivers) in the same position and maintain much better signal strength.

Things will definitely improve when Apple allows better access to the GPS services, but that will not necessarily improve the sensitivity of the chipset. The current issues of the iPhone maintaining a satellite signal lock will not change by simply increasing update frequency. If they are able to increase the power applied to the GPS and THAT may improve the situation. It is also possible that the rumored shift from the Broadcom to the Infineon GPS will improve the situation.

In general, though, I expect to see improvements in GPS support and function on the platform when OS 3.0 appears.

That is true, but I think there is a sensitivity issue as well.
