USB 3.5″ floppy drive is an inexpensive way to retrieve files for only $16

USB FLOPPY DRIVE.jpg

It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a 3.5″ floppy drive. That doesn’t mean that I might not have a disk or two packed away in a closet. The problem is that it’s been since forever that I have seen a laptop which includes a 3.5″ floppy bay. Here’s a cheap solution that will let you read any stray 3.5″ disks that you may have. For only $16 you get an external 3.5″ drive that reads both 720 and “high capacity” 1.44mb drives. Remember when we all thought that 1.44 mb was so much space that we’d never need a bigger drive?

Before we moved last year I used the floppy from my HP Omnibook 800CT to deal with all of my floppies! So I brought (almost) none with me – formatted and donated!

Who would ever have thought you could get a USB 3.5″ floppy for $16…

Believe it or not, I actually need one of these for 5.25″ floppies. I've got a lot of old but important files locked away on these that I never transferred. They are not worth paying a lot of money to transfer them, but I sure would love a solution like this one. Anyone know of one????

I looked around a bit and could only come up with homespun ones but nothing specific … the links were all from ~2004 …

Thanks for the effort. I appreciate it!
