Finding a Wi-Fi signal can be somewhat of a hassle. The ordeal of opening up your laptop and searching the area for an 802.11B or G signal can be so time consuming that most of the time I just wait until I’m back to my house or at a Starbucks where I know there is Wi-Fi. This tiny Ball Pen integrates an 802.11B and G Wi-Fi detector and strength meter. With a claimed range of 10-30 Meters (30-100 feet) this detector resolves some Wi-Fi uncertainty. Of course the network still could be password protected (the pen has no indication of whether the Wi-Fi is secured) and it doesn’t show how many networks are available – but at least you’ll know if it’s worth the hassle to unpack your laptop.
