I make a point of using reusable bags, whether it’s grocery shopping or some other kind. If it can be recycled, it gets recycled. (They’ll take windowpane envelopes too, as long as they’re not destroyed. I walk or take the bus/subway for most of the places I go. I turn off lights that aren’t in use. And I’m working on switching all the plug-in electronics to surge protectors so they can be turned off or unplugged.

We recycle all paper, plastic and glass on our list for our county’s recycle program. We’ve also started composting all the organic waste from our food preparation (including coffee grounds!). We’ve switch most of our light bulbs to low powered florescent bulbs and just purchased a Honda Fit to reduce gasoline consumption.

We recycle (a lot). We’ve got containers for all the plastics, cans, etc – and then for the bigger stuff there’s a recycle place right down the street. We also end up donating old clothes that are still in good shape to places like goodwill.

Overall in the household we usually produce one bag (or less) of trash a week, and we could probably cut that down even further if we started composting.

I buy rechargeable batteries, use cloth shopping bags, refill my own ink cartridges, buy energy-saving lightbulbs, and even use the backs of old printouts as scratch paper. Just need to save up for that eco-friendly car, unless you are giving one of them away too.

I used to print our my source code for reviewing and debugging purpose. Viewing the source code on paper is much easier than on the monitor. However, lately, I have been reducing printing–a very small part to reduce resource consumption.

I use a tablet pc with pdf software to replace all paperwork – printing, filling out & signing forms, note taking, everything. Also reduces clutter to maintain sanity.

I have replaced every light bulb in my house with the new energy efficient lightbulbs. I have also bought a rain barrel to use for our plants.

Sooooo against plastic water bottles. Bought an aluminum one. If I do need to use a plastic water bottle…I keep refilling it until it starts to stink!

I have replaced all of my windows with high efficiency types. I use all CFL bulbs & leave the windows open as much as possible to avoid AC here in South Louisiana. I use rechargeable batteries and keep looking for new ways to save energy. For EARTH, I love trees and have continued to nurture them on my property. Even after Hurricane Katrina (when I lost most of my old trees), I did not follow the advise of most – instead, I retained several large oaks within fall range of my home. The reason: they are beautiful and they shade the house to reduce energy consumption.

We have cancelled subscriptions to nearly all of our magazines and newspapers. You can get all of the information that is contained on that wasted paper on line. Also have increased usage of social networking tools like Facebook and twitter to keep up with what is going on.

I currently recycle, have been for years. Our borough recently decided to pick up plastics # 1-7 and I am the only person around here (that I know of) that's excited about that!!!!!

Its actually law here in IL, but I use compost-able/earth friendly lawn and leaf bags for grass clippings. They are hauled away every week and used to make compost.
