I really think the Mac OS side needs to come down to the iPhone side and give those guys a lesson in how to run an OS that makes people happy without slamming doors in their faces.

Exactly. I have always hated this tendency towards being overly-PC ... I am a parent and can BE the parent to my kids, I don't need Apple or Microsoft or Google or the government telling me what the acceptable moral standards are for my kids.

That seems to be the gist of what Trent Reznor is saying as well – he understands the desire to provide some for of ‘content control’ prior to the release of proper parental controls, but looks at the wild inconsistencies of the current system.

I have always hated this tendency towards being overly-PC … I am a parent and can BE the parent to my kids, I don’t need Apple or Microsoft or Google or the government telling me what the acceptable moral standards are for my kids.

By: Carly Z

<guid

The app is actually a NIN portal with info on their NIN/JA tour (Nine Inch Nails + Jane's Addiction), among other band news. And it happens to link to an internet stream of "Downward Spiral". With the tenuous logic that it links to something dirty [never mind the fact that Apple will HAPPILY take your money for the album over on the iTunes side], Apple really needs to ban the following:
-Google app (could search for dirty things)
-Facebook app (could have dirty status updates)
-Twitter (dirty tweets)
-Safari (could be using it to access offensive materials!)
-iPod app (could play "Downward Spiral"! NOOOOOO!)
-iPod app for video (could play a NIN video! Or, even worse, a Quentin Tarantino movie! What will happen to the world's delicate ears if we hear an f-bomb?)
-SMS app (Kids could be sexting!)
-Drop MMS update (See SMS ban)
-Phone app (could call someone with a dirty mouth!)
-Photos app (could have dirty photos installed!)
-Mail app (could be emailing/receiving something dirty!)
-Youtube app (no getting around the dirty videos ban!)
At this point, Apple should just release a device with iFart, Stocks, and Weather. Otherwise someone is bound to be offended and we can't have people choosing to expose themselves to uncouth language.

Apple’s standards on the NIN app are truly confusing. Since they each have different groups lobbying for and against, and different 'studies' showing their ills and benefits that gain popularity at different times, consumers end up with very confusing things to deal with.

Hmmm … hadn’t seen the NIN stuff, but have seen loads of similar stuff through the years related to music, movies and video games. On the NIN's site Reznor talks about a incident a few years ago with Walmart and the requiring of parent advisory labels for CDs and even the possibility of them not carrying certain music because of questionable content.
But not two feet from where these "questionable" CDs were kept you could turn and pick up a DVD of Scarface or a copy the game Grand Theft Auto.
This part of the iTunes problem strikes a similar cord.

Exactly Michael.

On the NIN’s site Reznor talks about a incident a few years ago with Walmart and the requiring of parent advisory labels for CDs and even the possibility of them not carrying certain music because of questionable content.

But not two feet from where these “questionable” CDs were kept you could turn and pick up a DVD of Scarface or a copy the game Grand Theft Auto.

This part of the iTunes problem strikes a similar cord.

By: Michael Anderson

<guid

I think that the App Store is a muddled mess that is awful to find stuff ... and the signal to noise ratio just browsing is terrible!
And it is again an issue where there is a double- or triple-standard at work ... you can buy songs with those words, you can certainly buy movies with those words ... but you cannot get the app? Nonsense!

I just saw an article about the parental controls (<a
