If you’ve got more cellular phone minutes than you know what to do with. If you’re prone to dropping your phone or find it uncomfortable to use for long periods of time – here’s an interesting desktop solution that accepts your GSM SIM card and allows you to place cellular calls. Although the phone appears to be your typical desktop variety (save for the antenna) – it’s actually a cellular phone. There’s a re-chargeable Li-ion battery which means the phone is also portable (re-charger included) so that you can take it to any room in the home or office. There’s also a built in hands-free speaker. There are two separate models sold – each has either 900/1800 or 850/1900 – so be sure you check for frequency compatibility in your area and select the proper model.

I am totally picturing this mounted in the center console of a car, and the look on the police officer’s face when he pulls over the driver for not using a hands free.

Well, since it *does* have a speaker there is really no excuse … ;)

Hmmm – that antenna reminds me of the old 3 watt bag phones. If this thing has a 3 watt antenna in it, I am going to get one for my extra SIM! We don’t have a landline, but this could be a perfect accompaniment to using our mobiles as a home phone in the country. :-)

@Carly Z: I’m actually considering buying one of these to use as a car phone… Seriously! Touchscreen phones suck when driving, and this has got nice, big buttons…

Looks like these guys should expand their market!

Interesting, I would pick one up too if it was 3 watt, although I can’t find the US version on their site…

I use this phone in place of a landline at my vacation rental condo. Most guests use
their cell phones these days, so the phone in the condo gets light use.
My landline cost $30/mo, and that buys 2 hours of AT&T prepaid time (and 5 hours of
T-mobile prepaid time, if their service is available).
