Yesterday we posted on the two new video camera’s from Pure Digital. The new Flip Ultra and UltraHD. Today a review unit arrived. It is a definite step up from the Flip units I have used before, and yet it retains the small size, ease of use and reasonable price. Let’s take a look.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Anyone who hangs around discussion forums for just about anything has run into the ‘How Old Are You?’ poll / question. Evidently there was a similar thread called “Average Kindle Owner’s Age” in the Amazon Kindle Forums. None of this is surprising. The amazing thing is that someone took the time to compile all of the data presented in these posts and do some analysis! Stephen Peters of Kindle Culture is writing a book called, unsurprisingly, Kindle Culture, and they went though all 1700 posts and compiled all of the data. So what does it all say?… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

If you have a goatee, chances are it has happened to you. You wake up from a less then stellar night of slumber, drag yourself in front in front of the mirror, lather your face up with shaving cream and begin to shave. Then it happens. You notice a slight irregularity in the shape of your goatee and decide it needs fixing. Except when you try to even it out it just becomes worse. Now you decide you’ll have to fix the other side. The process repeats itself until you end up with a freshly shaven face because you were forced to shave the whole thing off. You spend a few weeks growing your goatee back but eventually this happens again. How can you avoid this common goatee accident from occurring you ask? The Goatee Saver is here to save the day. Or the beard at the very least.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

My 9-month old daughter is already obsessed with my laptop, so I can certainly understand that there is a good market out there for computers that cater to the pre-teen crowd. Tapping into that demand, this week PeeWee PC announced the availability of the PeeWee Pivot Tablet Laptop. Targeted at children ages 3 to 10, it’s spill and drop resistant, has a built-in handle, and weighs in at 3 pounds. From a hardware perspective, it features netbook-level hardware (1.6 GHz Atom processor, 1 GB memory, and 60 GB HDD) and a 9-inch, rotating touch screen. Software features include a Walt Disney Windows XP theme, educational software, games, and a security suite that provides parental control options. The PeeWee PC retails for $599, and includes a six-cell battery (so it should have decent battery life) and 3-year warranty. The press release and full specifications are included below.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

It is one thing to review an item and quite another to actually use it in the real world. As I wrote in my initial review earlier this week, I am thrilled by the Pulse pen from Livescribe and am finding it to be one of the most useful tech-tools I have ever used. My days of longing for my tabletpc are largely over and, like my iPhone, this device is now a constant companion. My main focus had been the pen’s ability to capture my writing and recreate the page in electronic form on my Mac. Because I was “writing-focused”, once I decided the pen was a keeper I ordered and received a variety of pad types. (Livescribe offers a nice selection and an overview is in the works.) What I DID NOT expect was how impressive the voice recording feature of the pen would be, and how quickly I would begin using and relying on it. Here’s one real-world experience that may just have turned me from a “true-believer” into a hard-core evangelist.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
