NileGuide.com's iPhone Application

When it comes to “getting away”, sometimes my travels are superficial (like when I just want to follow a band that’s performing within four hours of me).  Other times, they’re much more in-depth (like when I take that two week getaway to that new vacation spot and don’t want to miss ANYTHING).  In the past, I’ve relied on personal experiences, scattered web searching or research by concierges at my hotel to give me recommendations.  It is from these sources that I build my local “knowledge base” of the area in question.

But now, thanks to NileGuide, things have gotten a lot easier.

As Josh Steinitz, the CEO of NileGuide, puts it:

“Our mission is to be the world’s first one-stop-shop for custom trip planning. We combine personalized travel ecommendations, integrated planning and booking tools, and a free custom downloadable guidebook to take on the trip…all under one roof. We’re also super-useful for locals to find things to do in their area, or to plan weekend getaways.”

And by “custom”, they do mean ‘customized’.  you can search for suggestions based upon style characteristics like “off the beaten path” or “romantic”, pulled from 100,000 points of interest in 100 popular destinations and centralized into a downloadable guide (not unlike an Automobile Association of America’s TripTik).  As if that wasn’t enough, they now have an iPhone application which not only acts as an extension of the guides that you’ve created, but allow you to access to pre-made guides provided by members of the NileGuide network.

Clearly, NileGuide wants to become YOUR personal, computerized travel agent.  Bon voyage!

P.S. – Work permitting, I will be taking a mini-vacation in the next two weeks for which I plan on using NileGuide.com to do all of the heavy lifting.   So, keep an eye out for my in-depth review.
