Palm Pre Charging.jpg

I’ve been reading through several discussion forums to gather information on what real users are reporting about the Palm Pre. It’s been only a day so there will likely be software updates coming to combat some issues. Right now the biggest problem users are discussing appears to be the Palm Pre battery life. Several users are indicating that their Palm Pre discharges within 2 to 4 hours – even when idle. Incredibly the official Sprint forum administrator admits that you may have to charge your Pre up to three times a day:

No – it’s good for a half a day of heavy use. I’ve been charging three times a day (noon, 5PM, overnight) but I’m heavy on the phone – 4 to 6 hours of calls a day on Bluetooth with all the apps open at once.

We’ll get some tips on maximizing battery life out here next week.

Why exactly is this a surprise? The Pre battery is rated for five hours just talking – no data, no Bluetooth, nothing else but voice. They probably did the battery test with all programs closed and screen set to auto-shutoff.

    Ouch…that’s a pretty sad tip.

Close your eyes and think back . . . just like the early comments about the iPhone.

Seidio to the rescue! Good thing it’s a replaceable battery. I can make it through a day with “normal” use, but my use these first few days has been anything but normal! :)
