Are you the proud owner of a new Palm Pre? If you haven’t already, you might want to get a screen protector, pronto.
Joel at Geek.com posted the above photo of his new Palm Pre. It’s a rather disturbing sight, considering that his Pre is 5 days old and hasn’t been dropped or handled roughly. Let’s hope this is not typical of the build quality.
Jeff’s interest in computers and technology began by watching too many Star Trek reruns after school. His first computer was a Timex-Sinclair, for which he had the 16K – yes, 16K – add-on pack. His current interest in gadgets was spurred on by the original Palm Pilot; from there it was a slippery slope to Pocket PCs, Archos media players, Sony Cliés, and various Apple products.
There was a whole thread at precentral about cracks radiating out from the button area…hopefully there was just a small bad batch that went out.

There’s no way those scratches are the result of being carried in an otherwise empty pocket (as he claims). Friction with hard, sharp objects was involved. I carry my Pre unprotected in my pocket and it is pristine.

I have always hated ‘screen exposed’ things for this very reason, and the first thing I do when getting a device that is screen-front is get a protector and case.
