I currently have two 13″ Apple notebooks on my table. (Isn’t it great when you HAVE to upgrade so you can give someone else a “new” notebook!) One is a 13″ MacBook… the other a 13″ MacBook Pro. As you know the two are remarkably similar both inside and out. How similar??? Let’s take a look! It’s time to play… Spot the MacBook Pro!

From The Bottom

As you can see, only the second side shot and the bottom shot give away the difference to any significant degree. (The first side shot shows a minor difference.) The two are very similar except for the screen, SD slot, the ability to eventually load 8GB RAM into it (WOW!!) and the improved battery life.

I’ve loved using the 13″ MacBook since last fall and tried a 15″ MacBook Pro for the last weeks. The raw power of the high end Pro was great but for me the 13″ has the right balance of weight, power and screen size for my needs. Add to that the SD slot (a great move for me!), the single audio jack (super for using my headset the way I do with my iPhone) and the unbelievable battery life on the new MacBook Pros and… let’s just say this is one great notebook!

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. +Dan Cohen
