iGoogle For iPhone and Android Is Back, Better Than Ever!

I was bummed when Google pulled their iPhone (and Android) optimized version of iGoogle. I love iGoogle on my desktop and MacBook and find it a great way to see a whole host of information at a single glance. The iPhone version did the same for quick information access, although with such a small screen it wasn’t QUITE the same…

Well, turns out Google wasn’t done with it… they were retooling it. iGoogle is back… and better than ever.

A quick visit to www.google.com/m/igoogle will take you to a whole new version of iGoogle. Or… you can check out the screen shots that follow.

So long as you have already set up iGoogle, once you log into it you will find all the widgets you have on your desktop version, albeit in single column form, available.

All the usual iGoogle tabs you set up for the desktop are there and, so long as they do not require flash (THANKS APPLE!), they work…

I can access Google Reader from it…

I can access my todo list. (Yes, Toodledo is back!)

5

I can see my Jotts and my calendar…

The new version is much faster to load than before and seems to have a host of new functionality. For example, the Google Voice gadget works extremely well. In addition, when you move from one service to another it seems to make the transition much more quickly than before.

Sure, the resident Google app provides access to a host of Google services, but with so many iGoogle widgets available, this is really worth a look!

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. +Dan Cohen
