Earlier this week Michael posted a tutorial on how to get Sirius or XM radio to play on your iPhone or iPod Touch via the Pocket Tunes Application.
Well as you probably already know, things happen fast in the iPhone world, and now it seems that method, although nice, might not be necessary after all.
An official Sirius/XM radio application is now available for download from the iTunes App Store.
You must be subscribed to Sirius/XM’s premium service (which includes the ability to listen online and costs and extra $3 a month) for the application to work but the download itself is free.
The application has some really nifty features, such as the ability to immediately purchase a song you hear playing in the application. via the iTunes App Store.
What’s also interesting is that the iTunes description and the special web page for the application make no mention of Howard Stern and reports are floating around from those who’ve already download the application doesn’t have Howard 100 or 101 in the app. Other channels are missing as well, such as NFL and MLB.
You can find out more about the Sirius/XM application by visiting this web site.
Note: I would not write off the Pocket Tunes method completely. With Pocket Tunes you get access to a host of other internet radio stations in addition to the Sirius/XM content as well and if the official app. doesn’t include Stern, Pocket Tunes does.

Someone needs to tell Sirius that there’s already tons of free music available and they should have put Stern show on the lineup.
Maybe due to the content they’ll sell the Stern show as a separate App? Here’s hoping…

So basically …
They came out with an app that fails to deliver what seems to be some of the most compelling reasons for folks to pay the $10 a month? As my kids would say … “EPIC FAIL”!

Sirius wins in my car since broadcast radio is miserable but as for online listening (including iPhone) there are a million free options like Pandora. I told Sirius as much in an email to them and received some canned response from them. As a result I now limit my Sirius listening to my car. Their loss.
Man, I love Pandora.
