Ok – I’m mixing media a little bit in the title, but the sad news today is that Kodak, after 74 years in production, has decided to retire Kodachrome film. In recent years, the film, primarily used to make those wonderful vacation slides your parents annoyed everybody with, has been replaced by newer film technologies and digital film technology (currently about 70% of Kodak’s business).
The last rolls of the film are headed to the George Eastman House International Museum of Photography and Film.
On their website, Kodak has a really nice gallery dedicated to Kodachrome.
Chris has been a COBOL programmer, a desktop support technician, network engineer, telecommunications manager, and even a professional musician. Currently, he is focused on deploying Voice over IP technologies in a large, corporate setting. He started working full-time at the tender age of 14, even before there were PCs, and will probably be working and trying to finish “just one more project” as he’s lowered into the grave.
Another great film goes by the wayside. SX-70 Time Zero has been gone for a while now. A awesome flickr group is out there where people can share their last few creations before you have to try and replicate it with Photoshop techniques.

It is interesting how we champion the rise of new things but simultaneously mourn the passing into obsolescence of other things … my son got a great old Polaroid camera from the 60′s at a yard sale, now is trying to get it all going again. Boy after my own heart
