Here at Gear Diary there are a lot of mobile application reviews covering many of the latest and greatest offerings available. Many reviews specifically highlight the iPhone/iPod Touch  –  and rightly so — given the quantity of applications available for Apple’s platform.  Don’t fret Symbian, Android, WinMo, and BlackBerry fans; there are plenty of awesome apps available for our devices as well.
Let’s take a look at one of BlackBerry App World’s most popular applications, Poynt — which, as of this writing, sits at #8 on the top download listing. Â Poynt is an all-in-one local search application that mixes a Yellow Pages, White Peages, and Movie Search service based on your GPS location.
You can view your search results on an interactive map, locate restaurants or businesses closest to your location, get driving or walking directions from within the application, see movie showtimes, watch movie trailers and buy tickets, look up people via the new White Pages feature, send search results to contacts, and save search results directly to your BlackBerry contact list – all in one application.
After using Poynt, it has become a staple on my BlackBerry. Â The interface, features, and accuracy definitely makes it one of the best BlackBerry applications available — and, to make it even better, it is Free. Â It is easy to see why Poynt won the $150.000 Grand Developer Prize last October during the first BlackBerry Developer Conference. Â Multiplied Media Corporation, the makers of Poynt, have consistently rolled out new features leveraging the application’s strengths for location based services — including integration with voice navigation systems. Â Previously, Poynt worked seamlessly with GoogleMaps and BlackBerryMaps; but now users can also access VZ Navigator, Gokivo, Telus Navigator, AAAMobile, Metro Navigator and Your Nav for audible turn-by-turn directions within Poynt (unfortunately, there is no current support for TeleNav, Garmin Mobile, or MapQuest Mobile).
Poynt is also expected to add an Open Table restaurant service in the near future, meaning you will be able to book a restaurant right within the application (no ETA on when that updated feature will be added). Â If you are a BlackBerry user, you should definitely download Poynt.
