Lenovo G530 for $379

Posted on 12 June 2009

It’s always amazing to me how inexpensive laptops are when you don’t necessarily need one. Case in point, New Egg has a Lenovo G530 laptop for just $379. $379? You probably have that much money in your change jar or under your couch cushions. Go look…see if I’m not right. Anyway, it appears to be a nicely loaded 15″ screen dual-core with a 160GB hard drive and 2GB RAM. It shouldn’t cost too much to upgrade the RAM to 4GB, if 2GB’s not enough juice…… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Posted on 12 June 2009

I love to cook, and I love to use fresh herbs from my little garden, but I don’t particularly enjoy the monotony of chopping fresh herbs into uniform bits. That’s why I am especially enjoying the set of Herb Scissors that Useful Things sent me.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Evernote For Pre Available Now

Posted on 12 June 2009

One of my most used Mac applications and iPhone apps is Evernote. Since I began using it over a year ago EVERYTHING goes into it. Notes, documents, emails I may need to reference… everything! I love it and apparently I’m not the only one since they recently broke 1 million users. That’s 1 million users just about a year after they came out of beta. Now THAT’S impressive. Evernote recently released a Blackberry client and yesterday… less than a week after the Palm Pre was released… it too just got a native Evernote client. Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Capture precious diving memories with 5MP Liquid Image Mask – $79

Posted on 12 June 2009

When you’re 40 feet underwater you don’t have a lot of great choices for taking pictures. You can buy disposable waterproof cameras – or haul down a professional model. Both have one drawback being that you have to hold them the entire time your diving. This Liquid Image Explorer Series 5 MP Underwater Digital Camera mask has the camera built right in. Just have your group smile and say cheese. Press the shutter button over your right eye and you’ve got an instant group photo. Just remember that if you hold your breath underwater you’ll rise and standout from the group shot – like I did in our group trip to Bahamas. Case-Mate Fuel Battery For iPhone 3G (And Now iPhone 3G S)

Posted on 11 June 2009

Among the good news with the upcoming iPhone 3GS is the additional battery life of anywhere between 10 and 20%. That will be a welcome addition as the iPhone 3G was, at best, problematic with regard to battery life.  At the same time, however, even with 10 to 20% of additional run-time there is no question I’ll be burning through my iPhone’s battery long before the day is through. (Yes, I use it that much.) Thankfully, there are a host of extra battery options available and every one, while designed for the iPhone 3G, will continue to work with the iPhone 3GS. One of the newest is also one of the more unusual. The Fuel from Case-Mate is a form-fitting battery pack, rather than taking a  “piggyback” approach functions as a hip holster while delivering 2300 milliamps of additional power to the device. That translates to 2.5 times the runtime for the iPhone 3G!!! Let’s take a look…… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Add some light and power to your iPhone

Posted on 11 June 2009

Are you constantly frustrated by the poor job the iPhone’s camera does in low light situations? The FastMac iv is a extended external battery for the iPhone that also has a flashlight which not only can help you see in the dark but can also add light for those times when the iPhone’s camera just isn’t getting enough. Priced at $99.95 it’s on the high end of the price scale of external batteries but it’s the first and only accessory for the iPhone I’ve seen to offer a flash for the camera. And you can still dock your iPhone in the iPhone dock while the battery is on! FastMac claims it’ll… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

The Useful Things Clothespin Chopsticks Review

Posted on 11 June 2009

Some of you may recall me talking about living in Taiwan when I was a child. One of the necessary skills that I learned, that I can still recall, was how to eat with chopsticks. This has come in quite handy as an adult, because I’ve grown very fond of eating sushi. Those who haven’t mastered fashioning two pointy sticks into their fork and spoon – whether because they don’t have the patience or they don’t have the dexterity – will understandably get a huge kick out of the Clothespin Chopsticks from Useful Things.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

HP’s Power to Change Campaign

Posted on 11 June 2009

When people talk about doing things for the environment, a lot of times they mention driving a more fuel efficient vehicle or recycling, but there are other things that can be done which don’t necessarily require much effort and could actually save money. One of those things is simply shutting down the computers in your home office at the end of the day. According to HP, “only 36% of business desktop users turn off at the end of the work day.” If “100,000 users remembered to turn off their computers at the end of the day, we could potentially save more than 2.680 kilowatt hours of energy. That is like reducing an estimated… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
