First Drives: New Lexus IS convertible, HS250h hybrid

Posted on 01 June 2009

Despite all of the news coming out of Detroit recently, the rest of the automotive world is pretty much “business as usual.” Case in point, Lexus recently rolled out a pair of new models to the automotive press – a convertible version of IS sport sedan and a new entry-luxury hybrid sedan.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Posted on 01 June 2009

Case-Mate has launched a new line of chrome cases for the Nokia E71, iPod Touch 2G, iPhone 3G, Blackberry Storm 9500 and the Blackberry Curve 8900. These impact resistant cases, which are part of the “Barely There” line, are slim profile, metallic looking cases that protect the back and corners of your device. Each case comes with a matching mirrored screen protector which gives your device a full chromed out look. These shiny, reflective cases are sure to turn some heads.  I’ve already ordered one for myself. Sony PSP Go Leaks Out Before Big E3 Intro

Posted on 01 June 2009

Sony apparently had big plans to launch the next iteration of the PSP at E3, which is running this week. This has been a poorly kept secret in general, with better and better rumors about their new disc-less system seemingly coming on a weekly basis in recent months. But the biggest leak of all came this weekend as the internet caught hold of an early release of the Sony-made Qore web show that was supposed to launch AFTER the big news. Instead we have confirmation of many rumors, squashing of others, and very little new info. First off, take a look at the image courtesy of Wired: Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Keep Her Happy is a silly iPhone App that lets you think one thing and say another

Posted on 01 June 2009

Here’s a silly iPhone App that I just spotted for .99. It provides politically correct answers to all those rigged questions that your significant other asks – such as “does this dress make me look fat” and “would you like to go shopping”. Naturally guys are thinking one answer (displayed on the iPhone) and if they want to stay out of the dog house they say another (spoken when you push the appropriate “guy thought” on the app). Yes, this is odd – but oh so true… Keep Her Happy – .99 (iTunes Link)… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Best Buy Rorschach Test Indicates – New iPhones On The Way!

Posted on 01 June 2009

When I was applying to graduate school I was given a battery of psychological tests that included the one and only time I was faced with the famous Rorschach Test. As you know the test is quite simple– look at an ink blot and tell the person doing the test what you see. Well, I took the test and they still accepted me- go figure. Well, we have one for you today. After the jump you’ll see an image. Please share the first thing that comes to mind. For those who prefer multiple choice we have included a few possibilities at the bottom…… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

It May Be Spring But It’s Time For Mac Users To Bundle Up

Posted on 01 June 2009

I’m a huge fan of the various bundles that are offered to Mac users through a variety of channels. As a relatively recent convert to OS X, bundles allowed me to get to know and to grab some excellent applications quickly. I still take a good long look whenever one comes out, since even one or two desirable applications in one can make the bundled price a bargain. Now there’s a new kid on the block. TheMacBundles launched today, and their initial bundle has some apps worth serious consideration.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Pharos PDR20 GPS – $58 after 10% coupon

Posted on 01 June 2009

This Pharos Touch Screen GPS (PDR200) features a 4″ LCD and text to speech spoken directions. Unlike some other more expensive GPS units all your maps will be stored on a 1GB SD card that inserts to the side slot. Some may call this a step backwards in features however I think its easier to update maps off card via an SD card reader than to haul the whole stinkin’ GPS into your house and find that special cable (that you’ve long since lost). So for $58 this GearSponsor deal makes a pretty affordable gift for someone that needs a basic budget priced GPS. LogicBuy Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Hulu Desktop Open For Business – NetBooks Need Not Apply

Posted on 01 June 2009

Hulu’s new desktop application for both Mac and Windows computers is nothing short of fantastic. It works great on both my iMac and my MacBook, offering stutter-free movies and television shows. It’s not all happy-time, however. We’ll get into that, but first let’s take a quick look at the new application.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

NileGuide.com: Here, There and Everywhere

Posted on 01 June 2009

NileGuide.com's iPhone Application When it comes to “getting away”, sometimes my travels are superficial (like when I just want to follow a band that’s performing within four hours of me).  Other times, they’re much more in-depth (like when I take that two week getaway to that new vacation spot and don’t want to miss ANYTHING).  In the past, I’ve relied on personal experiences, scattered web searching or research by concierges at my hotel to give me recommendations.  It is from these sources that I build my local “knowledge base” of the area in question. But now, thanks to NileGuide, things have gotten a lot easier.  Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Ilium Software Turns 12!

Posted on 01 June 2009

Twelve years is a long time to be doing anything.  I’ve been writing for just over 13, so I know how this is. Its a big deal; and its a LONG time to be doing anything of any real value (to you or to someone else). Case in point – Ilium Software makers of such great applications like eWallet, ListPro, NewsBreak and Keep Track, is turning 12 years old! To help celebrate this huge milestone, Ilium Software is throwing a huge birthday bash.  Direct from Julie Van De Water, my great friend at Ilium, A BIG five-day sale on all our software through our direct online store (for Windows Mobile, BlackBerry, Palm OS, Windows PC). eWallet for the iPhone will Continue reading on Gear Diary …

What’s In Your SCOTTeVEST?

Posted on 01 June 2009

Scott Jordan and “his Frisbee catching poodle Lucy” (a total doll!) are about to embark on a bus tour half-way across America to find out what’s in your SCOTTeVEST? This is your opportunity to create a video to show Scott what you use his products for, and win cool prizes – or possibly even be in his next catalog! We’ll be traveling from our hometown of Ketchum, Idaho to San Francisco, California, and back. I hope to meet many customers along the way. We’ll be asking you to show us What’s In Your SCOTTEVEST? (or WIYS, for short). We were inspired to do this after noticing that (without encouragement) many people are submitting videos on YouTube showing what they are carrying in their SCOTTEVEST. We will Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Save terrestrial radio!

Posted on 01 June 2009

While streaming internet radio and satellite radio are a geek’s best friends, sometimes for convenience there’s nothing easier than plain AM/FM radio. I started using the radio in my car when I moved farther away from work; with a longer commute I was forced to cycle my playlists more often on my iPod, and the poor quality of my cassette adapter was starting to grate on me. One day I discovered 101.9RXP, and suddenly I was hooked on FM radio again. My mornng and evening commutes seem to go by faster, and I’m learning to leave my musical comfort zone…but if some of the record labels have their way, local radio is going to have a very hard time bringing you new music, as they’re going to be paying a performance tax on all the music they play. Want to know how you can learn more, and possibly help your local radio station? Read on.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
