Some 3rd generation iPod Shuffle users have expressed frustration over the fact that currently the only headphones which can be used with the device are the ones Apple includes in the packaging.

Reason being the Shuffle no longer has any sort of buttons to control playback volume etc.   It’s all done through a small controller which is built into the headphones.

Dan recently discussed the issue in this post.

Scosche seems poised to relieve sufferers of this problem everywhere with some nice solutions.

I recently wrote about their tapLine control adapter and they’ve now announced the tapStick.

This device acts as a case for the Shuffle but features buttons built in.  The buttons control play, pause, adjust volume, skip tracks, navigate playlists and activate the VoiceOver feature.

The case comes in both white and black and can be pre-ordered on the Sosche web site (mid-July expected delivery) for $29.99

This is one of those accessories I don’t really get. At $30 it costs almost half the original price of the Shuffle itself. In addition, while it does let you use a variety of headsets with the Shuffle it still has the limitation of no screen while sacrificing the biggest benefit of the Shuffle.. its tiny size.

I like Scosche’s innovative accessories but the jury is out on this one for me. I look forward to seeing what people who actually use it think after it is released.
