Now that Apple has delivered iPhone push notifications it seems we’re still forced to wait for major applications to play catch up in adding this feature. One area that seems ripe for push notifications is Twitter. Most of the major Twitter applications have yet to add push notifications to their features list. Now there’s a freestanding application called Boxcar ($1.99) which monitors your Twitter mentions and direct messages every two minutes. When the app detects a message it launches a notification and you can start either Tweetie or Twitterific.

Been using it today and it works quite well.
But it seems like a temp. solution and for some could be a waste of money.
I mean surely Twitter client developers are working on versions of their applications that support push right? So when they do get released this app. becomes kind of useless.
For now it works and it just needs to support more apps – specifically Twittelator Pro.

There are indeed Rich, but I haven’t found them to be as robust as the clients that work with Boxcar.
