When it comes to iPhone ringtones there are a few options. You can live with the stock tones that ship with the device. You can (over)pay for them by purchasing through iTunes. You can make your own. Or you can subscribe to RingtoneFeeder.
RingtoneFeeder is a weekly delivery service that brings new tones - 1 vocal and 1 instrumental in 2 versions- to your iPhone each week. It is an interesting concept. Let’s take a look.
For $1.98US/mo or $19.98US/year RingtoneFeeder provides two new ringtones that are sent right to iTunes. From there it is a quick sync to your iPhone. Why would you want to pay for something you can create yourself? Two reasons.
First- convenience. Some people like creating ringtones. It is easy enough to do using GarageBand or PocketMac’s RingtoneStudio. (With RingtoneStudio you can greate an unlimited number of ringtons for under $30.) If you are one of them this is not for you. Others, however, can’t be bothered but would love some diversity in sound when their iPhone rings. For them this is perfect.!
Second, artistry. I can grab bit of music here and there and turn them into ringtones. These ringtones, however, are created by someone with musical talent. While it is a sure bet you won’t like or use all the ringtones you get through the service, if even a few find daily use the price o a subscription might be worthwhile.
There are a number of different subscription levels. A monthly subscription ($1.98) provides the 10 latest released ringtones and at least two new ringtones every week. An annual subscription ($19.98) saves you about $4 and automatically renews each year. The “Annual subscription + Archive” ($29.95) provides access to all released ringtones since April 2008 and then two new ringtones a week.
RingtoneFeeder is now also offering a new iPhone Alarm Pack. The Alarm Pack includes 25 iPhone Alarm tones for $6.49. These tones arrive in 3 formats (wav, mp3 and m4r) so they can be used with a variety of devices or on your iPhone as ringtones or alarms.
