It took me forever to download this (as yet officially unreleased but widely available online) BlackBerry Messenger from OTA (over the air links). It’s not because the download is slow but rather RIM’s BlackBerry OS insists on confirming several times that you really do want to download and install the software (a problem with many RIM downloads – not just this one). Each time it asks the default is either “no” or “cancel” and if you’re not watching closely you can mistakenly close out your download. That’s not even taking into consideration the super annoying 5 minute reboot that BlackBerry devices often require after installing a new piece of software. Arggg. If you’ve survived that rant then go grab the latest BlackBerry Messenger 5.0. This is not officially released but it’s appearing all over the Internet. Use at your own risk. The new messenger adds a capability to read and add contacts by bar code. You’ll also enjoy annoying contacts with numerous smilies – especially if you’ve set them all up in a group chat.
