SDG Systems Selling and Working With Bluebird Pidion Phones

Posted on 20 July 2009 by

SDG Systems, who loaned us the TDS Recon and the Openmoko devices for review earlier this year, contacted me about three new devices they are now selling.  First up is the Bluebird Pidion BM-150R.

BM150R

Currently running Windows Mobile, this is a Enterprise level smartphone with Quadband GSM, WiFi, GPS, a camera and a 3.5 inch VGA screen.  It also happens to be a device that is designed to take the bumps.

Next are a couple that are more suitable for vertical markets due to their specialized peripherals.  The first of which is the BIP-1300.

BIP1300

The BIP-1300 has Quadband GSM, HSDPA, WiFi, a Barcode Reader, a printer, a 2 Megapixel Camera, and a magnetic card reader.  I am sure I left something out of this one, which is basically all set to become a portable credit card station.

BIP6000

Finally, there’s the BIP-6000 which has a lot of the features the BM-150R, a keyboard and a RFID reader.

Brian tells me they are currently working on porting Linux to 2 of these devices.  To find out more, head over to SDG Systems.

Update(again on 7/22): Brian e-mailed me some more information about each unit:

For the BM-150R:
Singleband HSDPA(Will not work in US)
For the BIP-1300:
No HSDPA – Available with GSM/GPRS/EDGE (Quadband) or CDMA 1x/EvDO
For the BIP-6000:
A couple additional features it possesses over the BM-150R are 1D/2D barcode scanning, runs Windows Mobile 6.1, more rugged, and has a faster processor.  It is larger than the BM-150R but has a good bit more functionality as well.
