While I still love my Amazon Kindle and enjoy using it my frustrations with it are also well documented here on the site. I like the device well enough but many of the limitations have quickly become clear. At the same time, while I’ve been reading numerous books on the device I’ve also found myself reading some of the old books I had from eReader and Fictionwise. And while I would love something larger, I find reading on the iPhone and the iPod touch a nice experience.

It’s for these reasons that I was thrilled to see Barnes & Noble jumping into the e-book world as a significant up-and-coming competitor to Amazon recently. This is especially the case since the company now owns the aforementioned e-book sellers.

As big a fan as I am of e-books I’m nothing compared to James Kendrick over on JKontherun. He recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Barnes & Noble and came away with some terrific insights. Perhaps the biggest insight is that the company is committed to bringing e-books to every platform. Add to that the recent move to offer free WiFi at all their locations and B&N is looks to be getting in Amazon’s face and saying “game on”.

It is a great read and well-worth the time. Jump on over to JKOnTheRun to read it.

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. +Dan Cohen
