I just noticed an email waiting with the title “You’re the first to know”, but because of the mountain of messages I’ve been working through all morning, it took me almost an hour after it was received for me to even see it! Ah well, my email management nightmares are a post for another day. In the meantime, let me pass on the information telling Skooba Design’s way to end the week “with a bang!”. They are offering 50% off any one order when you use the code HALFCRAZY. This sale is only good until 11:59 pm tomorrow, so if a new Skooba bag is in your list of “want to buys,” you’d better act now! Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I have three small kids. One of our favorite activities is “movie-night” at home. Before I got my Apple TV, I’d download movies into iTunes and transfer them over to my iPhone. Then I’d take the iPhone to the TV and plug it in to my Apple AV cables, which include a power supply. But the cables are messy and since I didn’t leave my iPhone connected all the time, I was putting them away and taking them out each time I wanted to watch something from the iPhone. I wish I’d seen the Dexim AV dock back then. This dock, which comes with an AC adapter, AV cables a remote and… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

‘ I’ll ignore the fact that the title of the PCWorld article, “Apple’s iPhone and iPod Monopolies Must Go”, is an obvious attempt to draw readers to it. (Heck, it worked on me didn’t it?) I’ll ignore the fact that the author does the requisite “I’m not saying I don’t like Apple, I do BUT…..” that is so much a part of these articles. What I won’t ignore is the fact that he is just dead wrong.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Looks like I missed this press release somewhere. My friend Mark twittered today that “free” online music service Pandora now charges if you listen for more than 40 hours per month. Looks as if this new policy is also being noticed by Twitter users as I’ve spotted dozens of surprised messages announcing that Pandora is sending notification once you approach the 40 hour mark. Your options to keep listening are to pay .99 which gets you to the end of the current month, subscribe to Pandora’s pay service for $36 per year or do nothing and wait for your free 40 hours to start again the next month. I guess option D is to create multiple accounts but that wouldn’t… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

Have you ever wanted to take your smartphone with you on a workout, but your workout shorts don’t have pockets and neither does your T-Shirt? What would you do? Well you could order a arm band for your prospective device, but one downside to this is you must buy a new one when you buy a device that doesn’t fit the arm band. That’s where the ArmPocket Sport 20 comes in. The ArmPocket Sport 20 is essentially a universal arm band that is designed to work primarily with touch screen based devices like the iPhone, the T-Mobile G1, The T-Mobile myTouch 3g and more. It has a large window where the screen goes and a couple of pockets inside. There are 20 cubic inches of storage capacity inside the ArmPocket, which is enough to store your phone, keys, a id, a credit card and some energy gel.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

I’m a big fan of Twitter. Two of my favorite Twitter clients for the iPhone are Tweetie and Twittelator Pro. Unfortunately neither supports push notifications. Tweetie can be coupled with Boxcar to get push notifications on the iPhone but it’s sort of a patch solution and you have to purchase two apps. Now comes Twitbit which appears to be the first client for the iPhone to support push notifications from the app. itself. Once installed and configured, Twitbit notifies you of @ replies and direct messages. As a full fledged Twitter client it’s not as robust as some of the others but for now it’s the only Twitter… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

One small change at a time… If someone were to ask me for my definition of the “perfect” job, it would be an occupation where (in no particular order): I enjoy the work that I do. I would be well-paid (subjective, I know) for the work that I do, and… I get the opportunity to help people. Jobs like these don’t come along everyday. But, if you’re like me AND you live in the United Kingdom, then I should inform you – you’ve got less than two weeks left to apply for that perfect job. Just don’t use me as a reference … Continue reading on Gear Diary …

If you think Google’s Street View which overlays photographs onto maps then you’ll love this upcoming application from Acrossair which will allow you to view New York City subway stops simply by holding up your iPhone 3GS and moving it from side to side. I’ve been looking for a little while for an easy way to upload video to Facebook. I know that you can send a video via MMS – which is already available and free to all members. Unfortunately I’m using the iPhone 3GS on AT&T which doesn’t support MMS (though they promise that it’s coming really soon now). Last night I spotted Video Up in the iTunes Store. It promises to allow effortless upload of video from your iPhone 3GS to Facebook. How’d it work?… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

As General Motors enters its new generation, we are still testing vehicles designed and produced in its former life. The brand may have been resurrected, but much of what consumers will see over the next few years are the same products GM has been delivering – which is to say that while there are many bright spots in the lineup, there are still areas that need a bit of attention. We recently spent time in the new Cadillac Escalade Hybrid, and not just any old Escalade Hybrid but the new Platinum edition truck.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …

So I have to admit my wife and I are “web-shopaholics” to the extreme. Most of the stuff we buy, outside of groceries we do online…I mean we have even gone as far as ordering pizza online! In our shopping there are two things that both of us very much dislike 1. having to enter our credit/debit card info on every transaction, and 2. the possibility of identity and account information theft…I also hate having to turn on a light if in a dark room or on the deck at night to get my card info and enter it.… Continue reading on Gear Diary …
