Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. +Dan Cohen

I’m not sure – some articles have looked at the possibility of it being an oversized and overpriced iPod … and that it would be a failure if that is the case.

    Michael-
I think the reality is that no one really has a clue. It is looking very likely that SOMETHING will be released. It is looking like it will somehow work to allow Apple and the Record Companies to jack up prices with some new “enhancement”. And, it is sounding like 10″ is a good bet based on suppliers sending Apple tons of 10″ touch screens in bulk.
Beyond that, however, I think all the info on what exactly it will be and what it will run is just fodder to drive traffic- the honest money is on the certainty that… we don’t know anything!

To me a large iPod Touch tablet could make some sense, its value propositions would be better gaming (maybe with controller), HD Movies on the go, better browsing experience, and better multimedia and flash support. I think since the App Store will split between iPhone 2.0 and 3.0 apps anyway, why not split it again for Mobile Tablet Users. Apps could be bigger and more complex to suit the CPU power. It suits the sort of incremental advance Apple has been doing since the release of the iPhone. It would be great if they did have some new world changing use for the tablet, but how many times can you expect them to do that in a decade?

And if Apple won’t do it, a hackintosh netbook with 3g would be the first thing on my wishlist. If one of these new nVidia powered netbooks is hackintosh compatible I will be the first in line.

Oh and also because of Micro Transactions in games aligning with Micro Transactions in Apple apps.
