I miss Stargate. Luckily, Stargate never ends.

Stargate is back again as Stargate Universe or SGU.  A new trailer was released at Comic-Con and it actually looks OK.  Quite a bit of Battlestar Galactica seems to have rubbed off on it.  Due out this fall, the franchise is obviously now in what I like to call a ‘Star Trek Voyager’ phase.  This is not necessarily a bad thing; Captain Janeway had that strict sexy school ma’am thing down pat.  This time around, a new set of intrepid gate travellers are marooned on an Ancient ship lost on the other side of the Universe. Throw in some of that unreliable Ancient technology, some new bad guys, and it’s bound to have one close call after another.

Rodney is not in this one; from a survivability point of view I think we’d all agree that’s probably a wise move.  Don’t worry though, there is a new slide rule sheriff in town. David Blue plays Rodney’s alter ego, Eli Wallace, a mathematical genius who is also a total slacker – who knew the two went together?  The theme music has also had an update to the 21st Century – very Linkin Park.  All up, I feel very positive about this trailer.  Don’t get me wrong, I would watch the show anyway!  But it’s nice to know someone else might too.

While we are talking about Stargate, why not relive some favourite SG-1 or Atlantis moments with the new F302 Model from ThinkGeek .  This 1/129th scale replica is built straight from the original 3D CGI Files.

The F302 Model is available directly from ThinkGeek

My obsession with computerised technology began in High School when the schools first computer, an Apple IIe, arrived. Since then I have remained in the computer telecommunications industry for the last 25 Years, with a small break working in a Deli, while I tried to find myself. Once I realised I hadn’t really gone anywhere, whew! I got my shtick together, got married and sensibly agreed to blow all our savings and move to another country. I lived in London, and a few Months on and off in L.A, for three years. This gave me a great appreciation for history, architecture, philosophy and public transport. When my wife and I returned to Melbourne, Australia we discovered we had accrued more savings. Obviously we were not doing our part to contribute to National Debt so we bought some land and started building a house. Well designing it anyway, that lasted a while and then we got a new designer, finally construction started and should be finished around October of 2009. It would go a lot quicker if my wife and I could be cured of our Gadget obsession. By day I work full time for an Online Payment company and by night don my alter-ego as a mild mannered reporter.

They took off Atlantis when it was still going strong. I hope the new series lives up to MGM/SyFy’s expectations. I’m looking forward to it, but only slightly optimistic.
