Here it is- a real world test of tech! WXMGxz7v76ed8ov4ie0cebdOZuCqiaqu_m-1

7:00PM EST IT IS- DOUBLE CLICK FOR THE LIVE FEED

We are trying something new. Larry is testing to ioSafe Harddrive- the world’s first waterproof, fireproof external hard drive and boy are they putting it through the ringer. It is being placed in an old car which will then be set ablaze under the watchful eye of Larry and other members of the Ludwigs Corner Fire Company.

They will be recording everything with both a high quality video camera and a thermal imaging camera (TIC). The full post will include that footage, plus the recovery process in which Larry will pull the drive out of the well-done case and use it again with his Mac. (It currently has his entire Home directory on it!)

BUT!! We’re trying something new. Larry will also be streaming the video using Qik on his jailbroken iPhone 3GS to stream the events live. (We hope the connection is fast enough… we’ll see.) :)

Stay tuned- The fun begins shortly after 7pm EST.   This window will remain a placeholder until the stream goes live.

Our thanks to the members of the Ludwigs Corner Fire Company for making this possible!

Having a father who was heavily involved in early laser and fiber-optical research, Dan grew up surrounded by technology and gadgets. Dan’s father brought home one of the very first video games when he was young and Dan remembers seeing a “pre-release” touchtone phone. (When he asked his father what the “#” and “*” buttons were his dad said, “Some day, far in the future, we’ll have some use for them.”) Technology seemed to be in Dan’s blood but at some point he took a different path and ended up in the clergy. His passion for technology and gadgets never left him. +Dan Cohen
