Just when you thought there was no stylish way to protect your precious MacBook keyboard from spills while you sip your latte at the local Starbuck’s, iSkin comes out with the ProTouch lineup. They’re made with Microban to keep the nasty germies at bay, and they will add even more pizazz to your MacBook, MacBook Pro, or MacBook Air.
You get three styles to choose from:
- ProTouch Classic – $29.99 (translucent): When you want to protect your keyboard without adding “loud” colors to your MacBook.
- ProTouch FX – $29.99: Adds a glow-in-the-dark background. Available in Red (”Delight”), Purple (”Excite”), and Black (aka “Thrill”).
- ProTouch Vibe – $34.99: Gives you a dual-tone “artistic” flair. Available in “Wild Cherry” (Red+Pink), “Day Dream” (Blue+Light Blue), “Star Gaze” (Purlple+Light Purple), and — of course — “Dragon Fly” (Green+Light Green).

Would this cause the MacBook to heat up more. Since there are no air inlet vents yet there is an exhaust vent in the back, I’m assuming air enters the MacBook through the keyboard. Is that true? If so, it would affect performance and battery life right?

@thehotrod: Good question. We can work on getting some review samples from iSkin to see whether there’s any performance, extra heat, or battery degradation using the ProTouch keyboard covers on a few MacBooks.

They look really cool. But that is my concern. I guess as I sit here and lean side to side on my Macbook, I forgot about all the ports on the left and the dvd slot. Perhaps that’s where most of the air enters the macbook.
I did a quick google search and I didn’t come up with anything definitive either way (heating or no heating) but I did find some complaints about marks and/or smudges on the screen from keyboard skins.
So I don’t know what to think.
