Goodness gracious is this 3800 mAh extended battery for the Palm Pre a train wreck. Honestly – who uses this honking slab of electrodes. I guess if you’re looking to build your biceps it could be a good thing but otherwise it just seems like an awkward admission that maybe the Pre has the grandaddy of all battery life problems?

I looked at the full site, and yes, this is an over the top battery (but no worse than those giant dog sleds bolted around an iphone).
However, the real story here is their 2800mah battery. According to them, it actually makes the Pre feel easier to hold and type on. Unless you are one of those that have to impress everybody on how thin your phone is, to me feel in the hand is more important. For example, an ipod touch (and its god-aweful battery when using wifi) is too thin and slick to hold and do alot of typing on. Add the Otterbox rubber case, and it becomes a whole new animal (but yes thicker)
Let’s assume the pre can make it to 1 or 2pm with heavy geek use on the stock batter at 1100mah. With 2800, you could go from morning to night and probably have 50% charge left in it.
On the other hand, I use the old Treo 700p and on a heavy usage day or an ‘out of range’ day can only make it to 3pm or 4pm. But carry a few ounce battery in my car or bag, and I’m good as new. Not perfect, but it sure beats being hosed with an iphone because you can’t even change the battery.
