If you have followed computer strategy games for any length of time you are aware of the masterpiece Sid Meier’s Civilization series (the most recent edition of which was just released as a ‘Complete Edition‘). Anyway, last summer 2K Games released a version for consoles and the Nintendo DS called Civilization Revolution. It was met with solid critical praise, and has now made the trip to the iPhone!

The game is supposedly feature-complete from the console / handheld version, meaning there is a ton of game here to absorb your time (the Civ franchise is famous for ‘one more turn and I’ll got to bed …’ addictiveness). My own initial impressions tell me the game plays very much like the DS version, but looks much like the PSP version might have if it wasn’t canceled. Controls are a bit ‘chunky’ but work well enough – and since it is turn-based you get to correct any mistakes you make. If you know the franchise, this is a must-have; if not, try the lite version – don’t cost nuthin’.

Today only the game is on sale for $4.99:

There is also a free ‘Lite’ version:

I have loved technology for as long as I can remember - and have been a computer gamer since the PDP-10! Mobile Technology has played a major role in my life - I have used an electronic companion since the HP95LX more than 20 years ago, and have been a 'Laptop First' person since my Compaq LTE Lite 3/20 and Powerbook 170 back in 1991! As an avid gamer and gadget-junkie I was constantly asked for my opinions on new technology, which led to writing small blurbs ... and eventually becoming a reviewer many years ago. My family is my biggest priority in life, and they alternate between loving and tolerating my gaming and gadget hobbies ... but ultimately benefits from the addition of technology to our lives!
