Augmented reality is soon to be a hit with cell phones. Augmented reality is when a program, in this case the Layer Reality Browser, uses the cell phone’s integrated camera, GPS and compass to help locate where you are and then overlays the image coming from your phone’s camera. This is useful to tell you things about where you are, similar to Where and Sherpa except you new also have a visual reference as well.
Excuse the view of my cube as I discovered this at lunch.
This is a example of how this works. I did a search for Columbus Convention Center, and Layar brought up these points superimposed on my camera’s image. Stay tuned to Gear Diary for a full review of one of the coolest programs to hit the market since Sherpa!
For now, it is only available for Android. SPRXmobile has said that they are working on it for the iPhone 3GS.
