Over the last few days the rumor mill around the long-rumored PS3 Slim has gone into over drive, fueled by two things:
- Speculation based on supposed leaked KMart pre-order infomation (from Engadget).
- Rumors that the system will be on display at the Cologne GamesCon on August 18th (i.e. today!)
The PS3 has had loads of rumors around it for the three years since it launched at a shockingly high $699, most related to price drops – and most incorrect. However, Sony has clearly been pushing hard to drive down the manufacturing costs of the PS3 in hopes of shoring up floundering sales.
However, one difference this time – since the revelation of the KMart info the link has not gone away. Check it out here. Whether or not it is true, it is clear that the market is clambering for Sony to do *something* to reposition the PS3 and make it a contender so that more and better games will come to the system. We shall see today if the GamesCon rumor is true … but I wouldn’t discount the PS3 Slim possibility any time soon.
