As you may know there has been a bit of controversy regarding iPhone case maker Rebel Scholar.
It all started when I reviewed one of their cases and was a bit critical. (I also commented that I very much liked the other.)
From there it went from bad to worse – I received a lawyer’s letter, threats of being sued, others voiced their opinions on YouTube.
Well that’s not the end of the story.
A new chapter was written last night.
I’ll share the facts and timeline and, without offering comment, let you draw whatever conclusions you wish.
While on vacation I decided to place an order for three Rebel Scholar cases. I’d heard a few YouTubers who I normally respect speak so highly of them, I was starting to make wonder if perhaps I’d just had bad luck with them and my previous order. My customer service issues aside I wanted to give their cases another look.
I decided to order the Poison Petals Case ($34.99), a Black Stealth ($19.99) and a Pure Silver ($19.99) case.
I placed my order on August 18th and immediately paid via Pay Pal, receiving confirmation right away that my payment had been made.

I arrived home late last night and was going through my e-mail when the following e-mail arrived.

Dear Lawrence.
Please note at this time the SC-01s is on backorder.
Also – we are concerned with your order because the feedback we have received is that our cases don’t fit your phone? Please clarify the situation for our understanding.
“Creating The Future.”
I responded back right away and said that they could send my the two cases that were in stock and simply credit my Pay Pal account for the back ordered case.

I figured that would be the end of it and that they’d simply issue me a refund for the out of stock case and I’d receive the other two in a few days.
I was wrong.
Not long after I received an e-mail back telling me that my entire order had been refunded, with no other explanation.

And sure enough a Pay Pal credit notification arrived shortly after.
But not for the one back ordered case, but for the entire order. All three cases.

Somewhat confused I sent the following e-mail in response:

To which I have not yet received a reply.
I’m don’t want to pine on this situation. I’ll leave you to draw your own conclusions.
Dear Rebel Scholar:
One thing I do wish though is that throughout the entire situation I could have had the opportunity to speak to someone from your company by name.
I would have really like to have heard from an individual rather than the company moniker.
Respectfully,
Gear Diary Editor.
